Barbless Revolution -What are Competition Barbless Hooks?
FIPS-Mouche competition rules stipulate that only purpose-made barbless hooks can be fished in competitions. Partridge has produced Competition Barbless Hooks for the past 30 years, firstly with the introduction of the Czech Nymph hook and then with two Dry Fly Patterns, SLD and SUD which have become icons internationally. Partridge produces their barbless patterns with robust needle points with black nickel finish for stealth.
What are our preferred hooks for Euro-style Nymphing?
Jig Hooks (codes SUJ, SLJ, SLJX, SLDJ) and Standard Dry (SLD2) are without doubt our most significant patterns when tying Euro-style Nymphs such as Perdigon nymphs. With a properly mounted slotted tungsten bead, each of these hooks will keel and ensure the nymph fishes inverted (hook point up) vastly reducing the number of snags on the bottom and therefore keeping your nymph fishing in a key strike zone for longer.
